Following today’s FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris, Formula E have now confirmed the 2017/2018 calendar with the addition of a race in Zurich, Switzerland.
The race scheduled for June 10 was previously listed as TBA but has now been confirmed as the Zurich E-Prix, taking place on a Sunday and bringing circuit racing back to Switzerland for the first time in more than 60 years. Racing had previously been forbidden in Switzerland for decades, with the last event taking place at Bremgarten circuit in 1954. However, a law change in 2015 lifted restrictions on fully-electric racing.
Zurich adds to the exciting list of new destinations on the 2017/18 calendar alongside Santiago, Sao Paulo and Rome who are also hosting Formula E for the very first time.
In addition, Formula E will also return to Berlin as the German round is confirmed at Tempelhof Airport on May 19, whilst the dates for the New York City E-Prix have also moved one week later – now taking place over the course of two days on July 14 & 15.
Virgin Racing Team Principal commented: “After bringing racing to New York for the first ever time, it’s fantastic for Formula E to be making history once again, this time in Switzerland. We’re very excited about the forthcoming season; we have a great driver line-up with preparations going very well ahead of pre-season testing next month. We’re confident we can carry on where we left off and continue our winning ways come race day in Hong Kong.”
