Following a two-day break from competition, Envision Racing drivers Sam Bird and Robin Frijns headed out for two practice sessions this morning on the newly configured 2.505km Berlin Tempelhof circuit.
Featuring a more technical middle sector, the third and final layout sees a series of tight and twisty turns from T4 onwards leading to the usual hairpin and long left-hander that runs onto the start/finish straight.
Once again, energy management will be key for the final two races as temperatures continue to soar in the German capital and the longer circuit will prove more demanding for drivers – a challenge Envision Racing have tackled well before.
The pairing showed they had strong race pace in the first session, with Dutchman Frijns placing in P4 (1:16.340s) whilst Briton Bird was just behind in P7 (1:16.378s). Session two saw both drivers setting practice qualifying laps but both were hindered by traffic.
Next up is qualifying for the fifth time at the Tempelhof circuit at 14:15 local time (13:15 UK time), where Bird will head out in Group 2 with Frijns in Group 3.
