It’s been nine long weeks since the third season of the FIA Formula E Championship concluded in Montreal, with the Virgin Racing team ending with the most successful yet in terms of silverware.
From its debut season in 2014/2015, the team has now secured an impressive 467 points, five wins, 13 podiums, six poles, five fastest laps and nine FanBoosts from its 33 race starts. Sam Bird’s double victory in New York also continued the team’s record of securing wins in all three Formula E seasons.
As a new season approaches, so does a new driver line-up at Virgin Racing with newcomer Alex Lynn partnering with team stalwart Sam Bird, to give the series’ its first ever all-British line-up.
The first official outing for the new duo will be Formula E pre-season testing, held at Spain’s Ricardo Tormo track in Valencia, beginning on October 2, through to October 5 with a one-day break on the Wednesday.
“Preparation for season four began even before my debut in New York”
“I can’t wait to get to Valencia,” says Lynn, who recently turned 24 and is the second youngest driver on the grid. “It will be great to be going there knowing I’m now full-time in the championship. Preparation for season four began even before my debut in New York. My test before that race already saw me in a season four car, getting to grips with it and focusing on the software development. Both Sam and I have already been working hard in the sim and helping to develop the car as best we can before we hit the track in Valencia. From that point of view, it’s already all hands on deck.”
For Sam, who is responsible for 313 of the team’s 467-point tally, the Briton is keen to pick up where he left off. “We had a good home stretch to season three with some strong results in the last few races, which gave us a solid platform to work from in preparation for this season.”
Adding: “We’ve also done some simulation work in the off season and worked hard on ways in which we can make marginal gains. I have continued to train hard throughout the summer so feel ready to hit the ground running and am looking forward to the Valencia tests.”
Official Formula E testing takes place in Valencia on October 2, 3 and 5. To follow all the action, tune into the team’s social channels and website.
