Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird says he has his sights set on a top-three finish ahead of the upcoming fourth FIA Formula E season.
The Briton, who has scored all five of the team’s victories to date and is the third highest all-time Formula E points scorer, believes the squad can take the fight to the likes of Renault e.dams and the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler team.
“We’re going to be aiming for top three in the manufacturers’ standings and I’m going to be aiming for top three in the drivers’ standings,” said Bird.
Adding: “We came close to achieving those things in previous seasons; it’s extremely tough but why not give it a go?”
Speaking on the soon-to-be-unveiled season four challenger – the DSV-03 – Bird added: “We’ve refined our current system from season three. We’ve worked on optimising many aspects of the car; software, hardware, tyres etc.”
For season four, Bird will be joined by new team-mate and championship newcomer Alex Lynn. “Obviously, Alex coming on board is a good addition to the team. I think everything else is pretty similar so if we work in a good way, we should be in decent shape.”
The opening rounds of the 2017/2018 season begin in Hong Kong on 2/3 December.
