September 13 marks 10 years since the very first race in Formula E – and ten years of Envision Racing’s participation in the world’s leading all-electric motorsport series.
Envision Racing – initially entered into the sport as Virgin Racing – were one of the founding members of the sport, and have been one of the most popular and successful teams ever since. The team has finished on the podium 53 times to date and amassed 1726 points – more than any other team in the competition.
Envision Racing drivers have claimed 16 wins to date, with the team becoming world champions in Season 9 after a dramatic conclusion to the teams’ championship in London.
The team took its first win in Formula E in just the sport’s second race, when Sam Bird crossed the line first in Putrajaya in 2014. The team has gone on to win races all around the world, from New York to Paris, London and Monaco.
Since Envision came on board ahead of Season 5, with the team going on to ever-greater success. In Season 9, when the team won the world championship as Nick Cassidy challenged for the driver’s title until the final weekend, the Green Machine’s championship points total of 304 was at the time a record performance from any team over one season.
The team’s success on the track has been matched by its commitment to promoting sustainability and climate action off it. The team has hosted Race Against Climate Change events in capitals all across the world, with almost 300,000 fans having made a pledge on the team’s website to reduce their carbon footprint in various ways. Presenting to world leaders at COP26 and COP28, and at the World Economic Forum, award-winning projects such as ‘Recover E’ have helped drive attention and conversation about the need to make positive changes for the future.
